Get to Know Your Off-Campus Neighborhood

Everywhere you go around off-campus is different, some areas feeling more student oriented and others feeling historic and scenic. As you settle into your new homes, you may wonder what type of community you live in. Each of the off-campus neighborhoods highlight different historical, cultural, and geographical components. You can check out the off-campus map to find your neighborhood as well as those that surround you and discover what you can expect this year!

Elbel: Comprised almost entirely of student residents, the neighborhood is just a short walk from the Athletic campus. At the corner of Division and Hill, Elbel Field sits in the middle of the neighborhood. This outdoor complex includes a 100-yard turf football field, two sand volleyball courts, a picnic area, two softball fields, and a field area where students can play soccer, cricket, rugby, or ultimate frisbee!

Yost: South of Packard and east of State St, it's just a short walk from South Campus. This neighborhood is home to many student athletes and undergraduate students. Across the street from the neighborhhod is Yost Ice Arena- home to the Michigan Hockey team, offering public skate nights during the year for just $3!

North Ingalls: North of Rackham Graduate School is where this neighborhood lies, amid the many colorful and historic student houses. A huge pro to living here is your proximity to many popular restaurants like Angelo's and Sava's as well as the short walk to the Power Center which hosts a variety of perforances featuring the School of Music, THeatre, and Dance students!

Tappan: Located almost in the center of the off-campus neighborhoods, Tappan is home to many Greek houses and student residents. Home to the Law Quad and Ross School of business, and a very short distance from the Diag- this neighborhood is full of student life! South University lines this neighborhood offering countless restaurants and shops as well.

West Murfin: Acting as the sole student neighborhood on North Campus, it rests north of Hubbard Road. This neighborhood is home to a lot of nature and offers a much different scene to UM students. However, Plymouth Road, which is just north West Murfin, offers residents a wide variety of stores and restaurants that are unique to Ann Arbor!

East Packard: Positioned on the south side of Oakland Street, this neighborhood is almost entirely comprised of student houses and apartments. At the heart of this neighborhood is the Tappan Triangle where residents can meet up or attend events!

South University: East of Church and south of Geddes places the residents equally close to campus as they are to vibrant Ann Arbor nightlife. The plethora of shops and restaurants on South University as well as the Forest Hill Cemetary, where many Michigan and Ann Arbor leading citizens were laid to rest, conttribute to this lively neighborhood!

Germantown: On the west side of campus, between State and Main street, lies Germantown. With many historical ties, turn-of-the-century homes, beutiful trees, and gorgeous stone built churches, it's almost like a completely new world on campus. Germantown is a healthy mix of students and permanent residents, and is home to landmarks for both to enjoy such as The Cube and the Michigan Union.

Old West Side: Home to many graduate students and permanent residents north of William Street, this area has a wide range in house style, age, build, and color- many of these houses dating from 1850 to 1925. Amid this quiet neighborhood you can find students gathering at Washtenaw Dairy or Jefferson Market & Cakery!

North Burns Park: Nestled south of Hill and East of FOrest, North Burns Park is one of the oldest, most historic residential areas in Ann Arbor. Also, this neighborhood is home to the popular gathering place The Rock, a canvas for student organizations and prideful students alike!

Old Fourth Ward: As one of the first residential areas in the city, it is home to Kerrytown- a lively marketplace blending the best of the old and the new! The Ann Arbor Farmer's Market in Kerrytown is every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer and the fall.

Oxbridge: East of Washtenaw and south of South University, this neighborhood hosts numerous Greek life houses as well as the Oxford Housing residence hall. The Nichols Arboretum is a short walk away and definitely a hot spot in the area for students and permanent residents! For student residents, the Oxford Shuttle runs from the Central Campus Transit Center to Trotter House, Oxford Housing, Henderson House, and East Quad Monday thru Friday until 2 AM and on the weekends from 5 PM - 10 PM.
