The election season can produce feelings of intense emotion and additional stress, and can bring us into conflict with people around us. Intense emotions and stress are completely normal, and can be exhausting. During times of additional stress, taking care of your mental well-being is essential. Wolverine Wellness has some tips to assist:
- Limit media exposure; less screen time can have a significant impact!
- Maintain and spruce up your self-care routine to alleviate stress and replenish your overall well-being.
- Instead of doom scrolling, focus on what you can control and do. Studies have shown that civic engagement improves well-being—voting or volunteering promotes a culture of care for yourself and your community.
Wolverine Wellness offers free, individualized wellness coaching that can be tailored to election stress for more direct support. Check out the topics wellness coaching offers and book a session with one of our coaches today.
We also understand that fear of the future, being overwhelmed by information, managing political differences in relationships, and self-care can be hard to juggle. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers these strategies to cope with election-related stress. CAPS also holds an open environment where individuals can express their feelings and concerns with others during their “Reflect and Connect: Coping with Election Stress” drop-in sessions. This session offers a space for safe connection with others while promoting meaningful dialogue and implementing creative expression tools that participants can use to express their emotions. This event will be held at CAPS (4th floor of the Michigan Union), November 21, 3-4 pm. If you’re interested, register and find more information.
