Updated response to Occupancy Delays at The One

On September 17, the Dean of Students Office released a statement regarding the delays in occupancy at The One and the support available to U-M students. We recognize that while some students have been able to move into The One and others have been able to find alternative housing, a significant number of students continue to be impacted by the ongoing delays.

Effective October 1, 2021, The One has been suspended from participation in the Beyond The Diag program. Suspension from Beyond The Diag means:

  • The One will be removed from the offcampushousing.umich.edu website
  • The One will not be present at any Housing Fair (virtual and in-person) in October
  • Any new marketing materials or publications produced by Beyond The Diag will not include The One

The suspension will remain in place until at least January 2022. At that time, the suspension will be reviewed to determine whether the suspension will continue or there will be an opportunity for The One to request reinstatement to Beyond The Diag.

The DOS Office continues to provide support for students affected by the occupancy delays at The One, and is coordinating with other university departments to assist students in need. As of Tuesday September 28, Dean of Students staff members have provided support and assistance to approximately 75 students. This support includes:

  • Facilitation of on-campus housing for 60 students
  • Meal and food assistance
  • Assistance with campus parking options
  • Emergency financial assistance for some related expenses.
  • Transportation options in and around Ann Arbor, including AAATA
  • Support with contacting faculty and instructors to explore class participation options
  • Identification of other off-campus housing options

The Dean of Students Office remains available to support students affected by the continued occupancy delays at The One. Students can reach out to the Dean of Students Office by phone (734-764-7420) or by email ([email protected]) to request a (virtual or in person) meeting with a staff member.
