Welcome back, Wolverines! Here are a few reminders for you as we all return to campus and settle into the new school year.
Events are a great way to come together and celebrate various occasions, like football season and the start of the semester. Being responsible for your alcohol consumption can help make events more inclusive for everyone. If you are hosting or attending an event with alcohol, think about how you can make sure that everyone has the best possible time, drinking or not.
If you are attending an event, here are some ideas on how to get what you want without any of the things you don't.
- Count how many drinks you're having and alternate them with non-alcoholic beverages like soda or water.
- Eat before and after going out, especially foods high in protein.
- Make a plan with your friends about looking out for each other and how you are getting home.
If you're hosting, you can follow the strategies below to help influence our community culture and create inclusive spaces.
- Provide high-protein food options, water, and non-alcoholic drinks.
- Serve standard-sized drinks (12 oz. beer, 5 oz. wine, 1.5 oz. shot/mixed drink).
- Avoid drinking games or contests.
Even if you're not planning to drink or attend parties, this time of year is brimming with exciting opportunities. From meeting new people to joining clubs, exploring Ann Arbor, and more, a whole world of experiences is waiting for you. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be thrilling and rewarding.
