August is here, which means the University of Michigan is welcoming back many students and welcoming a new class to Ann Arbor! To welcome these students to campus, the University of Michigan is hosting a whole range of exciting and engaging activities and events across Central and North Campuses, as part of the Welcome to Michigan program. Here’s a small selection of some of the events taking place:

 

Escapade (Saturday, August 24; 8-11pm)

Get to know the Michigan Union - enjoy snacks, music and roller skating and an opportunity to get to know the building, the spaces available to you, and the various offices and departments that can provide support and assistance.

 

Welcome Wellness (Sunday, August 25; 7-9pm)

A brand new event added to the Welcome calendar this year, designed to center students’ mental, physical and emotional health as they embark on a new semester at the University of Michigan. Take part in stress-reducing activities, wellness workshops and connect with campus health and wellbeing resources to ensure a balanced and successful start to the year.

 

Festifall (Monday, August 26 - North Campus and Wednesday, August 28 - Central Campus)

On the Diag (Central Campus) and The Grove (North Campus) - a great opportunity to learn about and get connected to hundreds of student organizations, as they share information about their work around campus!

 

Student Kick-Off Rally (Thursday August 29; 7:30pm)

Come see the Big House and practice the gameday traditions with your fellow students!

 

Party in the Park (Monday September 2; 12-3pm)

Taking place on North Campus, Party in the Park is a great opportunity for students living off-campus to connect with each other, and learn more about some of the support and resources available on campus. The event will include free food, live music, prizes, games and good times!

Off Campus Events

If you are curious about venturing off campus, there are always fun things happening in the city.

 

Every Thursday, until Thursday August 29, A2 Summer Streets Thursday Night Music events will be held from 7-9pm in downtown Ann Arbor, with local musicians performing around Main Street and some special retail and dining deals from local businesses.

 

In Kerrytown, the Ann Arbor Farmers Market occurs every Wednesday and Saturday (7am-3pm), offering fresh produce and items from local shops and eateries.

 

The third Wednesday of the month between July and October will also feature Food Truck Rallies from 5pm-8pm. The Food Truck Rallies will take place at the Farmers Market, with over 20 local food trucks to choose from.

 

Ann Arbor Bicentennial

2024 marks the 200th anniversary of Ann Arbor. To celebrate and recognize this historic milestone, there are a wide variety of events and activities taking place across the year for the residents and communities of Ann Arbor. You can visit the dedicated website to learn more about the city and its history, find out about upcoming events, and even take a fun quiz to test your A2 knowledge! You can also take an A2 Smart Tour, and get to know the city at your own pace.
