Preparations for leaving town

Block M

Congratulations on reaching the end of the Fall 2023 semester! We hope you have been able to enjoy this semester, and are now preparing for some well-earned rest. Whether you are planning to leaving town or if you’re staying in Ann Arbor, take a look at these reminders Community Concerns Response Team as you prepare for the break:

If you are leaving Ann Arbor:

  • Make sure to take or secure all your valuables, unplug electronics from outlets, and lock your doors and windows. You can lower your heat but keep it on at least 50 degrees to make sure pipes do not freeze.  Clean out your fridge of perishable items.
  • Reach out to your neighbors and let them know your plans for Winter break. Ask them to keep an eye on things if you are leaving Ann Arbor.

If you are planning to stay in Ann Arbor:

  • Be mindful of your neighbors when planning any social activities or events. Consider letting them know about events ahead of time - especially events that are taking place in the evening.
  • Keep in touch with friends who are still in Ann Arbor.
  • Check in with your friends that are out of town, including their travel plans
  • Try to keep your sidewalk clear of snow. This is a great time of year to help your neighbors keep their driveway and sidewalk shoveled.
  • To assist with snow removal and plowing of roads, move vehicles off of the road and on to driveway parking.
  • Be extra cautious while traveling on foot. Make sure to wear a warm jacket. Remember that vehicles may need extra time to stop in snowy/icy conditions.
