Group-X: Spice Up Your Workout

No matter how often you switch up your workout play-list, monotonous runs on the treadmill and tedious strides on the elliptical eventually get old. One of the greatest challenges of retaining a consistent workout routine is a lack of variety.

Offering nearly 30 different classes, with a Group-X pass, a shortage of workout options becomes a problem of the past.

What’s more, classes are suited to students of all different skill and fitness levels, ranging from low intensity yoga, to upbeat zumba, to hardcore “Bootcamp.” The five types of classes offered are Floor (Strength and Cardio), Dance, Mind/Body, Cycling, and Aquatics.

As a college student, convenience is key. That’s why Group-X classes are held in all three campus recreational buildings, so you will have easy access to classes whether you live on North Campus, Central Campus, or close to the Intramural Sports Building. Classes also run throughout the day, accommodating early birds with 7 am start times, and classes starting as late as 8pm for night owls.

Another draw of Group-X is the price. U-M students can purchase an unlimited class pass at the discounted price of $55 for fall semester. If you are interested in attending a single class, those can be purchased for only $8, and if you are looking to try out a class before spending any money, Group-X offers free weeks at the beginning and end of the semester. Keep a lookout for the next free week: December 12–18, 2019.

Aside from the obvious benefits of physical exercise, Group-X provides a sense of community. Especially during exam seasons and other stressful times of year, Group-X instructors recognize that students may need a space that is not only for working out, but also for safety and support. So, if you haven’t given it a try already, come get your sweat on at Group-X!
