While School is Away, it is Time to Play: Things to do in Ann Arbor during Winter Break

Right near the middle of central campus sits the Ann Arbor Art Museum. The museum is free to get in. Current exhibits consist of: Cosmogonic Tattoos; Tristin Lowe: Under the Influence; Paul Rand: The Designer’s Task; Abstraction, Color, and Politics in the Early 1970s; and Proof: The Ryoichi Evacuations. There are also events throughout the year that are free unless otherwise specified.


If you are looking for some sports excitement, you can go to either a basketball game or a hockey game. If you are interested, online ticket sales for an event end five hours before game time, more information on ticket purchasing can be found on the MGoBlue tickets website.

 

The Men’s Hockey team will be playing in the Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit, MI, less than an hour drive away. The Men’s Basketball team has multiple games in Ann Arbor over break including Western Michigan, Air Force, and Binghamton. Other teams play over break as well and more information can be found on the MGoBlue website. If you are interested in watching sports, but not into paying, MGoBlue also has a list of free admission games.


The Michigan Theatre, a non-profit organization whose mission is joyfully serving community, history, public storytelling & the arts, is a wonderful place to go to during break. Ticket prices for students with Valid ID is only $8, and if you become a Michigan Theatre Member’s ticket cost drops to $7.50. If you are an early movie time goer, there is matinee pricing Monday - Friday with a ticket price of $7. Some shows playing during break are: Burning, A Star is Born, Boy Erased, Green Book, Free Solo, Mirai, and many more.
