Spring-Breaking in Ann Arbor

There are plenty of interesting things to do and see if you are staying in Ann Arbor for the mid-semester break. Here are just a few of the ways you can have a fun and restful week off!

Places to Visit on Campus:

The University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA): The UMMA is one of the largest university art museums in the U.S. and displays over 150 years of art collections. The best part is that admission is free!

Matthaei Botanical Gardens: Take a break from the wild winter weather. Visit the conservatory at Matthaei Botanical Gardens for a mini-vacay to three warm weather climates. The Matthaei Botanical Gardens is just a short drive from central campus, and admission is free.

William L. Clements Library: Stop by the Clements Library to view the current Alcove Exhibit: The Pioneer Americanists: Early Collectors, Dealers, and Bibliographers. This exhibit is a captivating look at the lives and careers of eight generations of outstanding Americanists prior to 1900. It features books, manuscripts, and pictorial material about noteworthy specialists who created and nurtured the Americana field from the late seventeenth through the nineteenth century. The exhibit is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Fridays.

Things to do on Campus:

Open Ice Skating at Yost Ice Arena: Check out Yost Schedule to find open skate times for you and your friends!

Go to a Michigan Ice Hockey Game! Catch Michigan Wolverines play against the Arizona State Sun Devils at Yost Ice Arena on February 23rd and 24th at 7:30 pm. Get tickets!

See a movie at the newly renovated State Street Theatre! Check out showtimes on the Michigan theater website.

Restaurants to Check Out:

Aventura: Voted “One of the Best Restaurants in the Midwest” and “Best Restaurant in Washtenaw County”, you must pop into Aventura for some Spanish-style Tapas!

Isalita: Spice up your spring break with this restaurant inspired by the street stall food found in open air markets throughout Mexico.

Frita Batidos: Fritas is downtown Ann Arbor's best fast casual restaurant and bar. Check out this highly acclaimed restaurant for Cuban inspired food.

Spring Break Alternatives:

Readers & Best at the Ginsberg Center: Spend a day reading to kids in Washtenaw County and promoting diversity and inclusion. The Ginsberg Center will provide training and transportation. Come together with your fellow students and contribute to this great cause.

Intercultural Leadership Seminar: On February 26th, the International Center will be holding a forum on how to work effectively in a global environment. Apply to this seminar to learn more about intercultural communication skills.

There’s plenty of fun to be had in Ann Arbor, even when it’s cold out, so take advantage of all the museums, shops, and activities tree town has to offer!
