Ready for Registration?

When registering for classes the most important step is to be aware of what classes you need to take. Whether you are a freshmen or registering for your last semester on campus, being aware of requirements can save you major time and money. Sign up for a general advising appointment, but make sure you check with your major or school advisor as well.

Once you understand the requirements, it is time to start taking advantage of the course guide. The course guide for Fall 2016 has already been posted and breaks down all classes by major. However, make sure to check out the courses listed on Wolverine Access under schools/colleges, such as the Business School, School of Information, or School of Kinesiology. They offer some great classes open to non-majors that can be difficult to find out about when you are unaware of these resources. One of my favorite things to do during this time is to also check out professor reviews. While you cannot always fully trust sources such as "Rate My Professor," they do give insight as to what you can expect for the upcoming semester.

Starting March 23rd backpacking for classes becomes available. One quick tip is to not only backpack early, but if you are in your freshman or sophomore year, to also have back up classes prepared so that if a class fills you are able to have solid alternatives.

When the time comes to actually register for classes, make sure you know your registration date. You will be receiving an email from your advisor a couple of weeks beforehand, but undergrad registration is April 4th – April 18th.  Typically, if you already have backpacked the classes, all you need to do is check them off and click register. However, make sure you are prepared if you need an override, so you don’t get blocked out of the classes you need.

The last thing to consider is whether to take a class pass/fail. You can take up to 30 credits pass/fail, however there are some other regulations, so make sure you are aware of them and speak with your advisor!
