Michigan Athletics - Winter Season Update

It might be winter, but the Michigan athletic season is far from over. Here are a couple highlights to help you keep up with winter sports!

Basketball

Michigan Men’s Basketball upset the 4th ranked Michigan State 82-72 and moved to 5-2 Big Ten, 16-5 overall. Currently ranked 23rd in AP poll, Michigan is gaining momentum and has very high hopes for the rest of the season.

In Women’s Basketball, Michigan recently defeated Indiana in an overtime thriller improving their record to 4-2 Big Ten and 15-4 overall. Michigan women’s basketball is now ranked 19th in AP poll as they move into the end of the season. 

Hockey

Michigan men’s ice hockey defeats Minnesota (3-1) and records its first sweep in Minnesota in decades. Men’s hockey improves to 5-7-2 Big Ten, 10-10-2 overall and looks continue the momentum into the end of the season.

Swimming & Diving

Michigan Swimming and Diving look to bounce back from a dual meet loss to Indiana. Nearing the end of the regular season, the women’s team is ranked 4th and the men’s team is ranked 8th. Check out their upcoming meets against Big Ten Rivals Ohio State (1/20) and MSU (2/2).

Many more Michigan teams, such as track and field and lacrosse, are just about to start their seasons. Keep an eye out for more action in Michigan sports!

 

Intramural Sports

If you enjoy playing sports as a way to stay physically active, Intramural winter sports are a great option for you! For the months of January to February, the Intramural Sports offered include Basketball, Broomball, E-sports like Rocket League, Indoor Soccer, and Racquetball.

After the winter chill, look forward to getting outside in March and April with IM sports! The "Winter 2" session registration begins on February 21. For the months of March and April, Broomball, Indoor Soccer, Volleyball, 4v4 Flag Football, and 2v2 Sand volleyball are offered.

Even if you don’t play a team sport, there plenty of opportunities around campus to help you stay active this semester. Get out and exercise this winter to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and don’t forget to support your Wolverines in their winter and spring seasons!
