If you pay for utilities in your house or apartment, turning the heat on this winter may have put a little extra strain on your wallet. To save money this semester, here are a few tips to conserve energy and lower your electricity bill.
- Unplug electrical appliances and turn off power strips when not in use
- Take advantage of natural daylight when possible – open the blinds and turn off your lights
- Avoid the use of portable electric space heaters
- Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs where possible
- Keep thermostats set at 68° during the cold months and 76° during warm seasons
- Turn off the lights when leaving a room!
