The University of Michigan is  a huge school, with lots of places to study. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming, so use this guide to find a study space that works for you.

Central Campus:

Shapiro Undergraduate Library

  • Open hours: 24/7 

  • Seat availability: Can be rather difficult because you have to walk around and cannot necessarily book spots

  • Benefits: Bert’s Cafe and Shapiro Design Lab! 

  • Atmosphere: Collaborative on the first 2 floors, and quieter on 3rd and 4th


Angell Hall Courtyard Computing Center

  • Mon-Thurs: 24 hours

  • Fri: midnight-11:30pm

  • Sat: 10am-11:30pm

  • Sun: 10am-midnight

  • Seat availability: always a seat

  • Atmosphere: Collaborative


Hatcher Graduate Library

  • Mon-Thurs: 8am-2am

  • Fri: 8am-7pm

  • Sat: 10am-6pm

  • Sun: 1pm-2am

  • Seat availability: always a seat

  • Atmosphere: Quiet

  • Benefits: Reading Room, fantastic collections for humanities and social science research


North Campus:

Duderstadt Library

  • Open hours: 24/7

  • Seat availability: Great!

  • Benefits: Bert’s Cafe, Computer and Video Game Archive

  • Atmosphere: Generally quiet.


Pierpont Commons

  • Mon-Thurs: 7am-2am

  • Fri: 7am-12am

  • Sat: 8am-12am

  • Sunday 8am-2am

  • Seat availability: Great!

  • Benefits: Panda Express, Ahmo’s, Fireside Grill

  • Atmosphere: Quiet.
