On February 2, 2026, the Ann Arbor City Council amended Section 8:532 of the City of Ann Arbor’s Housing Code. Section 8:532 was amended to establish rules and regulations for the transparency of rental fees in Ann Arbor. The amended ordinance will become effective on August 1, 2026.
The Tenancy Fee Ordinance distinguishes between mandatory and optional tenancy fees and requires that mandatory tenancy fees be included in the base price of rent. The amended ordinance prohibits landlords from separately charging a tenant any mandatory tenancy fee. Further, the ordinance requires that optional tenancy fees be listed on the lease agreement and that the total price of rent and any optional tenancy fees be disclosed in any advertisement or posting of the rental property.
