Student Travel Insurance

The University of Michigan is committed to supporting all of our students in their study, research, conferences, and even extra-curricular experiences abroad as robustly as we can. U-M is able to provide support when students register their travel and enroll in travel abroad health insurance. This is required for those on U-M Related Travel (UMRT) and optional for those on personal travel - even for vacation or other travel not affiliated with U-M. Follow the steps below to ensure you have the resources and support you may need.

  1. Register your international travel with U-M. Travel registration takes just minutes and allows U-M to locate and assist U-M travelers abroad in the event of a health, safety, or security crisis. NOTE: If you applied for a U-M program through M-Compass, this application is your travel registration for the duration of your program dates.

  2. Ensure you are covered by GeoBlue, U-M’s travel abroad health and evacuation insurance. Insurance is mandatory for students on U-M Related Travel (UMRT) and optional for those on personal travel. U-M is only able to provide health insurance coverage and evacuation support to those who have obtained the insurance before travel. The cost is less than $2 per day.

For more information, review the requirements for international travel on Global Michigan and the UHS site where GeoBlue can be purchased. For questions, please contact the Global Engagement Team at [email protected]
