Welcome back!
As we head into fall, we wanted to remind you of the many great opportunities that are available through Michigan Recreation. All are great ways to achieve your fitness and well-being goals, meet new friends and do something nice for yourself.
As students you have free unlimited access to our facilities. This includes the Intramural Sports Building (IMSB), North Campus Recreation Building (NCRB) and Palmer Field Temporary Facility. And with an anticipated opening of January 2026, the new Hadley Family Recreation & Well-Being Center will feature a comprehensive climbing area, four gymnasium courts, aquatics center with pools for lap swimming, recreation, and recovery, indoor turf court, cycling studio, indoor running/walking track, functional training areas, significant space for strength and cardio equipment, and much more!
If you’re looking for outdoor sports, check out Mitchell and Hubbard Road Fields where you will find sand volleyball courts and turf and grass fields. If you are into court sports, we offer the Hubbard Road tennis/pickleball courts on North Campus just down Hubbard Road from the North Campus Recreation Building.
On the fitness side we offer Group-X and Specialized Group Training classes as well as Personal Training. All are led by our certified instructors.
If team sports are your passion we have several offerings there, too. We have 30 Club Sports teams who compete for national championships against colleges and universities from around the country. If you are looking for competition but something a little more casual Intramural Sports would be a great match for you. We offer a variety of sports including flag football, soccer, sand volleyball, kickball, pickleball, cornhole and many more. You can create your own team or if you are looking for a team you can sign up as a free agent and we will place you on a team. If video gaming is your thing check out Esports where you will find a community focused on fun and competition.
Think you might like a little more adventure in your life and a chance to connect with nature? Check out the offerings with our Adventure Leadership group located at our beautifully wooded Adventure Education Center on Dixboro Road. They offer a variety of trips throughout the semester—everything from meditative nature walks in the Arboretum to rock climbing to camping and hiking in our beautiful state of Michigan. And if you would like to create your own adventure, they have gear you can rent at our Resource Center. If you are looking for a team building opportunity for your study group or student organization, consider how the Adventure Leadership Team could help. Also located at the Adventure Education Center they feature low and high ropes courses, zip line and other fun and interactive ways to really get your team working together better.
Want to find out more? Join us for the Michigan Recreation Expo and Well-Being Festival, Friday, August 29 from 3-6pm on Palmer Field. There will be games, giveaways and fun! It is a great way to meet new friends and chat with the Michigan Recreation staff.
Have a great fall as you move your way to well-being!
