Fight the Flu!
It’s that time of year again. As it gets colder, the pressure’s on to get your flu shot. Flu shots are important in managing the prevention and spread of the flu, and if you do happen to catch the flu after vaccination, it can reduce your symptoms significantly.
Here are some of the places to get a flu shot on campus:
- Michigan Dining has partnered with Walgreens to provide pop-up, walk-in clinics for flu and COVID vaccines.
- University Health Service (UHS) also offers immunization services.
- Flu shot clinics – in partnership with MHealthy and Michigan Medicine
It's easy to get a flu shot at UHS
UHS offers flu shots for U-M students and other individuals who meet our eligibility criteria. UHS also stocks high-dose flu vaccines for ages 65+. You may also be able to get it at a local pharmacy, e.g. Walgreens, CVS, etc.
Appointments are required. To schedule an appointment:
-
Schedule through the Patient Portal (you will need a portal account). After login, go to Visits > Schedule an appointment > Flu shot
The shot is administered in the upper arm, so please wear appropriate clothing. Allow at least 30 minutes for your visit.
For U-M students (Ann Arbor campus), your health insurance will be billed and any cost not covered by insurance will be billed to you. Enrolled students can bill to a student account.
Cost for others is $50. See insurance plans below or pay with a major credit/debit card, cash, or personal check at your visit.
Details around dates, locations, and costs can be found at uhs.umich.edu/fluvaccination
Plan ahead for your Best Fan Experience
This football season is definitely one to get excited about, with plenty of home games taking place. Are you wanting to attend a football game this fall or participate in game-day activities? Planning on hosting a party of your own? Be careful! Football games often create room for risky drinking for both drinkers and non drinkers and this goes even more so for night games. In response to this the University, in collaboration with the city of Ann Arbor, is planning for the best fan experience.
How to have the best fan experience? You can follow Stay in the Blue, check out some safe social gathering tips, Expect Respect, and remember to have fun on game days.
U-M proudly supports students in recovery, and opportunities abound where students can participate in game-day festivities without alcohol as the focus. If students choose to drink, here are ideas about how to enjoy the game and feel great the next day.
- Consider talking with your group about day-of expectations.
- Plan an inclusive event with tips from this social gathering guide, adapted by students from the Ann Arbor Campus Community Coalition toolkit.
