Hiking is always a great choice for all seasons in Ann Arbor. Embracing nature is a perfect way to get yourself some energy boosts. There are several nature areas near Ann Arbor waiting for you to explore.

  1. Nichols Arboretum:

Also known as the “Arb” to many students, you’ll find many special places to discover, including extensive collections of native and exotic trees and shrubs here. You will also discover one of the richest landscapes in the region, as well as a complex glacial topography that presents vast panoramas, broad valleys, and intimate dales and glens.

  1. Barton Nature Area:
This beautiful woody area is close to Central Campus. Go down the trail and you’ll find a lake and the beauty of the Huron River. Here, people enjoy their picnic around the waterside. You could also bike along the river and enjoy the breeze!

Discovering the Ann Arbor region by boat is also a great way to relax. Summer in Michigan can be so hot. Before melting in the heat, jump into the water!

  1. Argo Park Canoe & Kayak
You may be surprised that you can go kayaking in the Huron River and don’t have to travel far. All we need to do is gather our friends and rent a kayak. Remember to reapply your sunscreen and bring some sandwiches!

  2. Half Moon Lake, Bruin Lake
If the Huron River cannot satisfy your desire to swim, then Half Moon Lake and Bruin Lake are wonderful places for you to explore. There, you could enjoy the cold water or read books on the beach.

There are also some great places to visit further afield, if you’re looking to explore more of Michigan.. Holland is the perfect town for traveling on weekends. It is near Lake Michigan, great for biking, and beautiful during the season of tulips. Pack your swimwear, books, and snacks, come to the beach, and embrace the beauty of Lake Michigan. Tulips blossom is in May, if you come then, make sure you don’t miss that!
