Beyond The Diag - January 2021

Column 1

Welcome to the first newsletter edition of 2021! We have lots of important information about staying safe and healthy on campus, as well as helpful advice on accessing new services and supports that are available to students.

COVID-19 updates for Winter semester

Many new safety measures and additional resources have been developed to protect and support U-M students, faculty and staff during Winter Term:

ResponsiBLUE app

All community members who need to enter U-M buildings are  required to show their ResponsiBLUE results. Please note that if you are an Undergraduate student who falls into one of the following categories, you are required to complete a weekly CSTP asymptomatic test as part of our updated safety measures.

This is for Undergraduate students who are:

Sub-Leasing

As the winter semester gets underway, we know that some students are thinking about or even looking for sub-lease options. Beyond The Diag is here to assist students with how to sub-lease successfully!

Looking TO Sub-Lease

  • Reach out to different landlords and leasing companies to ask about current openings.

  • Make sure you fill out all the appropriate paperwork from your new landlord; some landlords also have admin fees and other costs, as if you are signing a normal lease.

Winter Virtual Housing Fair

Welcome back to school fellow Wolverines! Hope you had an amazing winter break!

The winter semester is often the time when many students make decisions about where they plan to live next year. To help you through this process, and provide you with all the information and support you need, we are hosting a Winter Virtual Housing Fair on Thursday, February 25 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.

Virtual Office Hours

We recognize that during the pandemic, opportunities to engage and connect have been more challenging, and our physical separation has sometimes created additional challenges and needs. Therefore, we have developed a virtual office hours platform, for any students who have questions, concerns or needs related to living off-campus.

Take Time Before You Sign

If you are looking for housing off-campus, but don’t know where to start, don’t worry. We’ve put together a series of seven videos, which cover all the different pieces and parts of the house-hunting process, from budgeting, choosing roommates, signing the lease, and questions for landlords. These videos might not answer every single question related to off-campus housing, but are a good place to start before you begin your search. Take a look, and if you have more questions, please reach out to Beyond The Diag, or one of the partners who helped put them together.

What's for dinner (or breakfast or lunch)?

If you returned to campus this Winter term -- whether you live on or off campus -- the answer to that question could include the many convenient and diverse options that come with a Michigan Dining meal plan.

Here’s what you need-to-know:

  • If you live off campus, MDining has four different meal plans available. More information on those plans can be found here.

  • Michigan Dining is continuing with only to-go meals for the winter term.

Thefts from Vehicles

Our partners at DPSS and AAPD have advised that there has been a recent increase in the number of Larceny From Autos (LFAs), otherwise known as thefts from vehicles. These incidents appear to be concentrated in neighborhoods with larger student populations. The majority of incidents occur at night, and involve vehicles that were left unlocked.

If you own a vehicle, please follow the steps below to reduce the risk of being a victim of this crime:

  1. Ensure your vehicle is locked and secured, with windows fully rolled up. Always remove all keys and key fobs.
