Winter Break - Expect Respect

Get the most out of your break by:

  • Take this time to do what you love, rejuvenate yourself to begin next semester strong, or celebrate with the December graduates
  • Spend time with people you care about
  • Try new things - games, workouts, puzzles, indoor or outdoor activities
  • Practice self-care
  • Practice mindfulness and self-awareness

Also, remember winter break can mean different things to everyone. People celebrate a diverse set of traditions and holidays while others might not celebrate anything at all during this time. It is important to be mindful of the language we use in regards to winter break to be inclusive of everyone’s identities and beliefs. It can be easy to call this time off ‘Christmas Break’ due to mainstream notions of what winter break consists of. Simply by being mindful of language, everyone can feel included in discussions and events.

This can also be a time to create dialogue and have discussions about other people’s identities, traditions, and beliefs. It’s a great way to get to know other people better and also learn about people that are different than yourself.

Not everyone celebrates during this time of the year, so simply be mindful!
