Winter 2021 semester

The Winter 2021 Semester at the University of Michigan is going to look a little different than the Fall Semester. A new comprehensive plan for the Winter Term has been developed that will incorporate public health guidance, lessons learned from the Fall Semester, and increased feedback and engagement with the Ann Arbor community. Safety remains a top priority throughout our community. The University is taking the necessary precautions to ensure students and faculty have the opportunity to advance their academic endeavors. Mental health and well-being are essential during this time and, therefore, activities beyond academics will be preserved.

  • Increased Testing Capacity - there will be mandatory weekly testing for undergraduate students who live, learn, or work on campus. Asymptomatic testing will be made available to all students, faculty, and staff who need or want testing to work on campus.

  • More Courses Offered Remotely - while more courses will be offered online, additional course options will still be maintained.

  • Reduced Density - undergraduate on-campus housing will be limited to strictly undergraduates meeting certain criteria. It is strongly encouraged that undergraduate students, including those renting off-campus housing in Ann Arbor, study remotely from their permanent homes. All students are asked to consider whether returning to Ann Arbor is necessary before determining your living environment for Winter 2021.  A Strict, No-Tolerance Approach - there will be no tolerance for not adhering to the COVID-19 policies enforced by the University.

  • Expanded Services for Mental Health - multiple “well-being breaks” will be worked into the Winter Semester schedule and the campus recreational sports facilities will be available. Students can also continue to access resources such as CAPS, and the well-being information at Wolverine Wellness.
