Making it to Midterms

  • Arrange your schedule so leisure activities (exercise, social gatherings, etc.) break up your work. That way you’re not putting everything off until the last minute, and when you do homework, you can be motivated by a break that is only an hour away!

  • Take ten deep breaths to calm yourself down. Oftentimes, anxiety is an issue that prevents students from getting down to business; breathing deeply can help focus your energy.

  • Do something during the day to make yourself proud. Maybe it’s cleaning your room, volunteering at a local charity, or something as easy and simple as calling home. Whatever it is, it will assure that you’ve accomplished something, rather than simply going through the same routine day after day.

  • Reach out to others! Friends and family will not only help you, but they will remind you that you are never alone. Support during challenging times can help you make it through!

  • Start a journal and/or meditate once a day. Many find this helpful; it can alleviate stress and promote much-needed introspection.

  • Don't forget to schedule time to sleep! Sufficient sleep will improve your memory, spur creativity, sharpen your attention, and help maintain a healthy weight.

There are a plethora of resources (such as Campus Mind WorksAcademic Tips, and Dartmouth’s Academic Skills Center) that you can use to help you make it to midterms. You can do it!

You can also visit CAPS if you’re feeling that these aren’t enough. They have massage chairs and heat lamps on top of their great counseling and psychological services; don’t feel afraid to reach out to them!
