Insider Guide to U-M Transportation

The main form of transportation provided for students is University of Michigan Parking and Transportation Services (aka the Blue Buses). It is important to know the bus routes and schedules, especially what time bus routes end for the night. You can find bus routes and schedules on the University of Michigan Logistics, Transportation, and Parking website or select the “transit” option on google maps, which integrates the University bus routes into directions. You can also use the 'Maps' option within the University of Michigan App to view a map of U-M bus routes, search for a stop, or find out when the next bus will be arriving- you can also find parking locations across campus. Another bussing option is TheRide, Ann Arbor’s public transportation which updated the routes, extended the hours, and increased the frequency! Go new places with TheRide, all it takes is a swipe of your MCard for a free ride every time.

If you do find yourself needing transportation later than the buses run, don’t worry! The Night Owl Bus may have been discontinued, but there are many free or low cost options to getting home after a late night studying at the library or a friends house. Safe Ride offers rides within one mile of campus to students, faculty, and staff for free until 2am (call (734)647-8000, select option #1 to schedule a ride). Ride Home offers a free similar service until 7am, but has 3 limited pickup locations: the UGLI, the Duderstadt Center, and UH South Staff Entrance (call (734)647-8000, select option #2 to schedule a ride). Night Ride Home offers a $5 ride home to most of Ann Arbor and select areas of Ypsilanti all night (call (734)647-8000, select option #3 to schedule a ride). Find more details on options on the After Hours Transit Services page.
