Happy Halloween Wolverines, and welcome to the best time of the year! We hope you enjoy this holiday season, and to help we’ve compiled some tips to help make sure this Halloween is safe, memorable, and fun:
DO pick an appropriate costume
One of the best parts of Halloween is being able to dress as a completely different person. However, it’s important to make sure that we’re being respectful of others’ identities and not participating in cultural appropriation. For more information on cultural appropriation, check out this video. When in doubt, don’t wear it out!
DON’T drink too much
You don’t want to drink so much that you forget the entire night! Here are some tips to make sure you have a fun, safe, and memorable Halloween:
- Don’t drink on an empty stomach
- Alternate water between alcoholic beverages
- Never drink and drive
- Download the Stay in the Blue app to track your drinks
DO dress for the weather
Michigan is known for its rapidly changing and unpredictable weather. Sometimes it’s warm, sometimes it rains, and sometimes it even snows! Make sure to check the weather before you go out and plan accordingly.
DON’T feel pressured to participate if you don’t want to
Halloween should be fun, and you shouldn’t do anything you aren’t comfortable with. There are plenty of alternatives to drinking and partying this Halloween. You could visit a haunted house, stay home and watch a spooky movie, or attend one of these fun events in Ann Arbor.
DO be respectful of the neighbors
Remember that not everyone in Ann Arbor is a student, and many residents have children who want to have just as much fun as you this Halloween. Make sure you clean up after yourself and your guests and that you keep your music at a respectable level.
DON’T forget to decorate
Put up some spiderwebs and lay out some pumpkin-scented candles if you haven’t already. Decorating for the holiday helps set the mood for a spooky and fun Halloween. Check out this list of wallet-friendly décor ideas to spruce up your space this season!
DO have fun!
Fun is what Halloween is all about! Make sure you make the most of this spooky season, however you choose to celebrate!
