Beyond the Diag club spotlight: University of Michigan Dance Marathon

Are you passionate about helping people and making a difference in your community? Check out Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan! Dance Marathon (DMUM) raises funds to support children with disabilities and illnesses, and raises awareness for pediatric rehabilitation therapies that are available at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Through their fundraisers, the organization collects funds for rehabilitation programs like yoga and martial arts therapy, accessible tree climbing, and music therapy. DMUM partners with Michigan Medicine to make those services not covered by insurance accessible to all children.

Current DMUM member, Maria Uribe, attests that her volunteer experiences with the rehabilitation program have been so humbling. Uribe loves seeing how the kids give the activities their all, despite the challenges, and mentions how rewarding it is to go back each time and see how much the children have improved.

DMUM holds multiple fundraising events throughout the year, which culminates with VictorThon, DMUM’s main event, where members stay standing for 24 hours and participate in activities with the kids in an effort to improve awareness. If you are interested in getting involved, or wish to donate to the cause, you can visit DMUM for more information!
